In 1865 Samuel Briggs sets up S. Briggs in Burton-on-Trent, an ironmonger and coppersmith supplying to the local brewing industry.
In 1875 S. Briggs becomes Briggs and Bindley, and in 1888 becomes S. Briggs & Co.
Samuel Briggs started work for Thomas Bindley in 1865 (aged 16), S Briggs as a company didn’t exist then. Bindley & Briggs (not Briggs & Bindley) formed after Samuel Briggs married Thomas Bindleys daughter Elizabeth in 1872. In 1875 Bindley & Briggs opened the Burton Copper Works in Station Street Burton. Became S Briggs & Co after Thomas Bindley died in 1880 (we don’t know exactly when, so it could have been 1888, though seems unlikely).
