Batch Mixing and Holding Vessel Skid Systems for Blue-Chip Pharmaceutical Company
Briggs of Burton worked with Norbrook, a leading global generic and specialty pharmaceutical company in Northern Ireland, to deliver a fully automated, high-capacity pharmaceutical process system.
BRIGGS were tasked with a project to transfer and upgrade a process from an existing operator-based batching system to a fully automated skid system with an increased capacity within a new dedicated cleanroom suite.
BRIGGS designed, engineered and fabricated 3 pharmaceutical standard pressure vessels, ranging in capacity from 230L to 2400L, as well as the supporting ASME BPE compliant process system. The new system was built to be fully CIP-able (Clean in Place) and was highly automated by BRIGGS in-house software engineers, to meet Good Automated Manufacturing Practice (GAMP) standards.
The project scope included the design and supply of pharmaceutical-grade process equipment, comprising a 230 L sub-batch mixing vessel, a 2400 L main batch vessel, and a 2400 L holding vessel, alongside a PLC/MCC panel and a vacuum skid. The system was constructed as modular equipment units incorporating process and utility pipework, valves, pumps, filters, and instrumentation.
BRIGGS also provided comprehensive pharmaceutical engineering services, including the detailed design of the equipment, technical input during hazard reviews, and the development and fabrication of process equipment and vessels. The scope extended to pipework and installation, instrumentation, process automation, and the full assembly, delivery, and documentation of all equipment supplied.
