Briggs of Burton recognised as one of the fastest growing engineering companies in the UK

Briggs of Burton has been recognised as one of the UK’s fastest growing process engineering companies after strong growth in the distilling and pharmaceutical industries saw the manufacturing and project delivery specialists take top position.

Singled out in the prestigious Make UK national manufacturing awards, it follows Briggs tremendous financial growth, global expansion, and several multi-million-pound turnkey process engineering projects in the distilling and pharmaceutical industries.

Briggs, which is based in Derby Street, Burton on Trent, provides turnkey process engineering solutions for the world’s largest food, alcoholic beverage, and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

In the last two years, they have grown their global footprint by opening two new Sales andEngineering offices in Guadalajara, Mexico and Louisville, Kentucky, all whilst more than doubling their overall turnover. The business has been awarded their largest multi-million-pound project to date to build one of the biggest Tequila distilleries in the world alongside working with major beer, distilled spirits and pharmaceutical brands in the UK, USA, and China.

The company’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to sustainable process engineering across the food, drink and pharmaceutical industries has now seen them recognised in the Make UK National Manufacturing Awards 2023 which celebrate the best of UK manufacturing and engineering.

Singled out in the Business Growth and Strategy Award the company, which has already exceeded its 2024 revenue target, is providing turnkey process engineering solutions to build greener, more sustainable distilleries as well as supporting the next generation of pharmaceutical inhalant manufacturing.

In November last year Briggs was chosen as the Midlands and East regional winner in the Make UK Business Growth and Strategy Award. All of the five regional winners then went on to compete for the coveted National Make UK award with Briggs being singled out at the UK finals in London.

George Crombie, Engineering Director at Briggs of Burton, said it was a real honour for the company to receive this prestigious award in recognition of their ongoing leadership in the engineering industry.

He said: “I am incredibly proud of the Briggs team and the achievements we have realised globally. The team work incredibly hard to support our customers and always offer safe, flexible, and sustainable process engineering solutions across all our industries.

“As the company continues to grow and provide innovative new solutions across all industries, we are realising further opportunities in key regions such as Scotland, Mexico and the USA. Our global growth has always been grounded by our strong manufacturing base here in the UK which we continue to develop and grow year on year.”

One of Staffordshire’s fastest growing process engineering firms, Briggs unveiled a multi-million-pound investment in the region in 2021, transforming their Midlands headquarters into a brand new Global Technical Centre. The move followed continued successes in the brewing and distilling industries but also advances into the pharmaceutical sector. The expansion has continued in 2022 as the company has just announced their construction of a new dedicated pharmaceutical manufacturing facility as part of their Global Technical Centre in Burton on Trent. The facility will enable continued innovation in bespoke pharmaceutical systems in addition to its market leading inhalant mixing systems, which has seen Briggs lead the way in creating the next generation of sustainable inhalant mixing systems for the pharmaceutical industry.

Briggs of Burton PLC was originally formed over 285 years ago specialising in brewing equipment and engineering and is known worldwide for its turnkey brewing and distilling capabilities. Started by Samuel Briggs in 1865, Briggs of Burton’s history can be traced back to 1732.

Today Briggs of Burton, employs over 300 staff across six sites located in the UK, USA,China, and Mexico. The company provides turnkey process engineering solutions for leading companies globally.

Their innovative and sustainable approach means that Briggs of Burton PLC are leading the way in nurturing the engineers and technical capabilities to drive efficiencies and environmental improvements across all sectors of manufacturing.
