Ardgowan Distillery: Promoting Sustainable Whisky Production

Completed in June 2025, this state-of-the-art single malt whisky distillery was designed by BRIGGS for the Ardgowan Distillery Company. The copper pot stills, essential for whisky production, were supplied by McMillan Coppersmiths.

Ardgowan Distillery was founded by whisky enthusiasts and professionals, raised over £25 million to develop and build a new landmark single-malt whisky distillery and visitor centre.

Designed with future expansion and sustainability in mind, this project was delivered by BRIGGS as a full turnkey solution, including: Steeles Masher, Ø5m BRIGGS Full Lauter Tun, 6x 25,000 litres Washbacks supplied by Ziemann Holvrieka, 12,500 litre Wash Still, 9,000 litre Spirit Still, Spirt Safe, 2x Intermediate Spirit Receivers (ISR) and a Clean in Place (CIP) system.

The distillery combines traditional copper stills from McMillan Coppersmiths with cutting-edge energy recovery systems, including BRIGGS ThermoJet, our Thermal Vapour Recompression (TVR) solution.

The Ardgowan distillery is intended to produce 0.8 MLPA of malt whisky spirit for the first 5 to 10 years, after which it is intended to be scaled up to produce 1.65 MLPA.
