Mark Hickman finishes his virtual marathon off in style

It is always great to hear about how our engineers go above and beyond and demonstrate their engineering spirit.

This week we caught up with Mark Hickman who is normally on site coordinating the installation of our global engineering projects. Mark kindly shared some photos and recent success of completing London Marathon, albeit virtually! Mark said it was quite different from his previous two experiences. Running the event virtually” provided a positive twist that kept his spirits high as he completed the race in his local area with the support of family and friends.

Mark usually runs the event to raise money for JDRF a leading charity for type 1 diabetes, who actively fund research into a cure and also better ways to manage the condition. This year was no exception with his decision and motivation towards supporting his godson, Matthew, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2010, when he was just six years old.

For the virtual London Marathon, Mark recorded an impressive time of 4 hours 58 minutes for the 26.2-mile route. Matthew’s parents were a great support to Mark during the run. Matthew’s dad ran with Mark for the first 13 miles and his mum supported by walking 7 miles in the middle, both giving Mark the much-needed motivation and company for the long slog.

Mark has gone above and beyond in completing the marathon in style and has raised £1,325.00 through his fundraising page to support the charity.

Mark is still collecting money for his chosen charity and if you wish to learn more about his story please follow the link here:

It’s great to read and hear positive stories from our team and expect after a short rest Mark will soon be back to his Marathon training soon.
